Curating through Pinterest

Over the holiday break I had some time to wander and explore without rush or stress. On the personal side I became engaged with Pinterest - a social bulletin board of posting different web graphics for things you want to share with others or save for yourself.

After a few days of collecting arts and crafts, home decor ideas and loads of recipes my mind wandered to how this might be used by an educator. It seems that approaching the process from the personal side might be a way for someone to understand curation of content.

As educators - we have an endless amount of resources available for us, we do not have to create. What we do need to create is the way to gather appropriate resources for our students. This will become even more of a skill needed as we transform to personalized learning. Creating curation is where we need to be. Pinterest does that.

What I did find is that this new trend could be sueful or lead to a similar product for education. There are some gaps presently. If a source does not have graphics - you can't pin. So making sure the URL is in the description is necessary.

To start to understand curation of information and content for learning goals - start by doing your own life and interests. Join me on Pinterest and look for my boards. Make sure you let me know so I can follow you as well! If you need an invite - drop me a line.We all learn from each other.
