My work and interests span a variety of areas and networks. A colleague once identified it as the "shiny object syndrome", and I have to agree I can easily meet the criteria for that diagnosis during certain times. Yes - I can and do stay focused on a task to completion when needed, but always with the look to the target ahead of the target I am aiming for at the time. Before something is complete, I am already looking at what it can be next.
This is somewhat disruptive for those I work with or supervise. Hopefully individuals have come to know me well enough that I am comfortable with them not chasing as many shiny balls as I do. I do however have expectations that others are continuing to move to "new to them" explorations and skill building and that I am more than happy to feed that exploration with what I can as ideas, resource links, and feedback. My questions will always be to explore not only new tools to work smarter, not harder, but also to dig deeper into "why do we need to do it?" and what is the return on investment in time, resources and energy?.
With some of this reflection - I am finding a need to create some curations for others to explore as they discover the "new to them" and the collaborations among teams to get their work done. There are the tools like Pinterest and ScoopIt that can feed some of this - but not all are ready to use as a resource. So I will begin to put some traditional things in this blog as a different connection.
I am sure I am going to hit the wall as many do. This is not my full time work - although it would certainly be fun. So again the statement of curation - a sampling and a few items to help point individuals to others who do this kind of thing on daily, full time basis and providing choice in direction of where they find their own sweet spot of resource and connection.
